On Tuesday March 12th members of the Cavan Cross Cultural Community visited Loreto College Cavan. The event was organised as part of the Erasmus+ project in which our TY students are participating this year and also to coincide with the school's Intercultural Week.The speakers each gave accounts of their personal experiences both before leaving their home countries and then on arrival in Ireland. It was most informative for our students to hear how different life can be for others and the girls were very receptive of the speakers. It was a very enjoyable and educational experience for all involved.

On the 20th of January we, Sophia Crotty, Hannah Young, Katie Leddy, Niamh McCorry and Ava Sheils travelled to Athens in Greece as part of an Erasmus + programme.
During our stay we were hosted by different students from the local school, Arsakeio Tositseio Ekalis. Throughout the week we got to experience different elements of Greek culture and interact with a variety of students from many countries such as, Spain, Norway, Romania, Greece and the Netherlands.

On Friday 26th October, the students and staff here at Loreto College Cavan were privileged and delighted to welcome two very important visitors - Sr. Orla Tracey and Sr. Penina from our sister’s school, Loreto Rumbek, in South Sudan. To celebrate their visit, we decided to hold our annual Rumbek Day on that date. The school community was bursting with joy and spirits were flying high as everyone dressed up in the vibrant colours of the Rumbek flag to raise funds for Loreto Rumbek.

Last week was full of activities to celebrate maths week. We had a maths display where students could learn about careers involving maths, take inspiration from female mathematicians throughout history and smile at our maths jokes! There was also a ‘puzzle of the day’ competition, a huge number of students participated and correctly solved all types of puzzles from algebra to geometry and sequences. The four daily winners were Ellen McClean (2nd year), Emily Moore (1st year), Dearbhla Smith (2nd year) and Eva Couse (6th year).

It was great to see so many future ‘Loreto Ladies’ enrolling on Saturday 13th October 2018. Though the weather was dull the spirits were high as 6th class students enrolled and received a guided tour of the school from our Senior students. We look forward to seeing you all again in September 2019!
